Brigadoon: Marin to Melan

Brigadoon: Marin to Melan is a series by Hideyuki Kurata which premiered in 2000. The show centers around a girl named Marin and her alien partner Melan Blue as they attempt to save earth and the alien world of Brigadoon from mutual destruction.

(Marin to Melan was another accidental discovery on my part. I was actually looking up Saint Seiya when I discovered Brigadoon since there is a “Marin” in both series.)

At the opening, Marin is revealed as a being of extraordinary power who the Monomakia (aliens) want to rejuvenate Brigadoon,( their dying world). Marin, up to this point,has been an orphan living with her adoptive family in an apartment complex. She is poor, but high-spirited and optimistic as per most protagonists of the time.

Marin has the good luck of stumbling across a gun-swordsman monomakia named Melan Blue who becomes her protector from both alien and human threats. Marin and Melan proceed to defeat a boss of the week and slowly accumulate a small number of monomakia and human allies in their quest to save both Brigadoon and earth. It is in both Marin and Melan’s best interests to save Brigadoon since when Brigadoon dies it will crash into Earth and annihilate life on both worlds.
